Treatments

At SCO we provide expert care for a range of eye conditions, from common concerns to complex surgical procedures.

Using advanced technology and personalised treatment plans, we focus on preserving and restoring vision for long-term eye health. Discover our comprehensive range of treatments listed below.

icon eye surgery 01
  • A cataract is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens, leading to blurry or dim vision
  • Most cataracts are caused by age
  • Cataracts cause a reduction in vision, which due to their onset over years may not be noticed by the patient
  • Cataract surgery replaces the cloudy aged lens with a new clear acrylic lens
  • It is the most common eye operation performed in Australia and New Zealand and has a very high success rate
icon macular degeneration 01
  • Macular degeneration is an eye disease that affects the macula, the central part of the retina, leading to loss of central vision
  • There are two main forms:
Dry – more common and gradual
Wet – less common but faster and more severe. The most common cause is age
  • Symptoms of macular degeneration may include blurred or distorted central vision, difficulty reading or recognizing faces, and dark or empty areas in vision
  • To date, there is no cure for macular degeneration, but treatments are available to slow or halt its progress
icon pterygium 01
  • Pterygium is a wedge-shaped growth onto the cornea, the clear window of the front of the eye
  • They are closely linked to excessive exposure to UV light
  • Some of the symptoms include redness, irritation, a visible growth, and in advanced cases, blurred vision
  • If a pterygium is large enough, the treatment is surgical removal. A number of pterygia will contain cancer cells, which require further treatment
icon glaucoma 01
  • Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, often due to high intraocular pressure, leading to a slow, progressive and permanent loss of peripheral vision
  • There are many types of glaucoma
  • Glaucoma is often symptomless in early stages; later symptoms include loss of peripheral vision and, eventually, blindness if untreated
  • Glaucoma is a lifetime diagnosis and needs to be managed by an ophthalmologist long-term.
  • Treatment may include eye drops, oral medications, laser therapy, or surgery to lower eye pressure and prevent further damage

There are many eye conditions which may benefit from Laser treatment. At SCO, we offer the following types of Laser procedures:

  • YAG Laser Capsulotomy (YAG): Quick, painless laser procedure used to treat posterior capsule opacification (PCO). A common complication that can occur months or years after cataract surgery
  • YAG Laser Peripheral Iridotomy (PI): Used to treat or prevent angle-closure glaucoma
  • Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT): Used to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension
  • Barrier Laser Retinopexy: A procedure used to treat or prevent retinal detachment by sealing retinal tears or holes
  • Pan Retinal Photocoagulation (PRP): Laser applied to the retina to help seal leaking blood vessels and prevent further damage from Diabetic Eye disease
